Students who are interested in gaining experience through an internship in hotel management must check out how they can apply for the same:

  • Contact the Hotel: Candidates can directly contact the hotel to learn about the internship offering. They can contact the HR of the hotel or the training department and enquire about the vacancy for the internship. If there is any vacancy, students will be asked to send their CVs. After the CV gets shortlisted, they will be called for a personal interview round. 
  • Through College: After completing the hotel management courses in many institutes candidates have to go for mandatory industrial training which the college itself provides. In this way, getting an internship at the top hotels becomes easy for candidates. In most colleges, the resumes of candidates are directly sent to the hotels by the college. After this students selected based on resumes have to appear for the interview round before a panel. 

On selection through either way, students will be able to join top hotels for internships for hotel management students.

#1 Taj Group of Hotels

Taj Hotels is a chain of luxury hotels and a subsidiary of the Indian Hotels Company Limited. The headquarters of the Taj Group of Hotels is situated at Express Towers, Nariman Point in Mumbai. The Taj Group of Hotels was founded in 1903 by Jamsetji Tata(Founder of Tata Group). The hotel offers internship opportunities to the students of all its departments. An industrial/ hotel training of four-and-a-half to six months is provided to the students. Taj Group of Hotels also allows students to work with the Sales or HR Department if they find the student can work in that department.

How to apply?

Students can make a call to the hotel’s HR to apply for an internship. Once they receive the confirmation, they need to send their CV. Students will then have to appear for an interview. If they clear the round, they will be selected for the internship. 

Duration

The duration of the internship at Taj can be around four and a half months to six months. The internship is conducted in two batches:

  • Summer Batch:Interviews for the summer batch are conducted in January and February and the batch starts in May. All the posts for the internship are closed by February end
  • Winter Batch: The interviews for the winter batch are conducted in June/ July and the vacancies for the interview are closed by the end of July.  The batch starts in November/ December

Salary Offered

A hotel management student interning at Taj Group of Hotels will have an internship salary of INR 7,000 - 8,000/month. This salary range may be different from one Taj Group of Hotel to another.

#2 Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, commonly known as The Leela, is an Indian luxury hotel chain, founded by C. P. Krishnan Nair. The hotel was founded in 1986. The Leela offers a 17-week internship to students pursuing who are pursuing hotel management courses from Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) and a 22-week internship to students from other colleges. The hotel allows students to work in various departments such as front office, operations, housekeeping, food and beverage and kitchen.

How to apply?

Students can apply for an internship at Leela either on their own or through the colleges. The easiest way to get an internship at this hotel is through your college. 

Duration

The duration of the internship at Taj varies from 17 to 22 weeks. The internship is conducted in two batches:

  • Summer Batch: The summer batch starts in June/ July every year. The interview for the summer batch is conducted in March. Around 10 students are offered an internship at Leela in the summer internship batch
  • Winter Batch: The winter batch of internships starts in September/October and interviews are conducted in August. Around 15 students are hired as interns in the winter internship batch at Leela

Salary Offered

The internship salary range of hotel management student training at Leela Palace is between INR 15,887 - 24,303/month. Students must note that their salary bar will vary based on the hotel’s location.

#3 Westin Hotel & Resorts

Westin Hotels & Resorts is an American upscale hotel chain owned by Marriott International. The hotel was founded in 1930 and is one of the reputed hotels in India. Westin Hotels & Resorts offers internships to students at all its four main departments including food and beverage services, housekeeping and kitchen, front office, and operations.

How to apply?

Westin Hotels & Resorts prefers students who apply through college. Candidates who are interested in an internship at Westin Hotels & Resorts are advised to apply through their college.

Duration

The internship is conducted in two batches:

  • Summer Batch: The summer internship batch starts in June/July. The Gurgaon branch of the hotel offers internships to 40 students and the Sona branch of the hotel offers internships to 20 students in the summer batch
  • Winter Batch: The winter internship batch starts in September/October. The Gurgaon branch of the hotel offers internships to 50 students and the Sona branch of the hotel offers internships to 30 students in the summer batch

Salary Offered

The salary of an intern at Taj Group of Hotels varies from hotel to hotel. Students can earn around INR 14,000 to INR 15,000 during the internship period.

#4 Oberoi Hotels

Founded in 1934, Oberoi Group is a luxury hotel group having its head office in Delhi. The company owns and operates around 31 luxury hotels and two river cruise ships in 5 countries, primarily under its Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and Trident brands. Every year many students complete internships from Oberoi Hotels & Resorts. The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development provides a detailed checklist to the students on what to observe in the core departments. This internship helps students to get experience in housekeeping, front office and other departments of hotel management.

How to apply?

For this internship, most colleges send the resumes of the students to the hotel and arrange the interviews for them. However, individual candidates can also apply for an internship at the Oberoi. They can contact the training department of the hotel to get information about the internship. 

Duration

The duration of this internship generally ranges somewhere around 17 weeks. The two batches of internships at the Oberoi are as follows:

  • Summer Batch: The interview to shortlist candidates for the summer batch is conducted in February. The internship batch starts in May and continues for six months
  • Winter Batch: The interview rounds for the winter batch are conducted in September every year. The batch is started in November

Salary Offered

As per Glassdoor, a salary of INR 8,770 per month is offered to hotel management students during the internship at Oberoi Hotel. This salary or internship stipend is stipulated to differ based on the location of the hotel.

#5 Marriot Hotels

Marriot Hotels is one of the well-known chains of hotels situated in the country. The hotel is one of the few hotels that allow students to actively intern at the front office of the hotel. This enables them to be the face of the hotel. Besides the front office, students are also made to work in different departments such as housekeeping, kitchen and food and beverage services. They are made to work for different duration of time at all the departments of the hotel. 

How to apply?

Colleges can contact the hotel to enquire about vacancies. After that, colleges share the CVs of students with the hotel and arrange interviews for them. Individuals can also apply for internships at Marriot Hotels by contacting the training department. 

Duration

The duration of this internship at Marriot Hotels is six months and divided into two batches as explained below:

  • Summer Batch: The summer batch starts in June/ July every year
  • Winter Batch: The summer batch starts in December/ January every year
