The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) was founded in 2018 under the direction of the Indian government's Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The FDDI campus has been established in five regions and has a total of 12 campuses. In the northern region, there are four campuses namely in Noida, Rohtak, Chandigarh and Chandigarh (Mohali). The Footwear Design and Development Institute Chandigarh (Mohali) was established under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. The campus is located next to National Highway 07, Chandigarh-Patiala Highway, Banur, Distt - S.A.S Nagar - Mohali (near Chandigarh) - 140601.
The FDDI Act 2017 has empowered FDDI the designation of "An Institution of National Importance" in recognition of the important role it is playing in educating people and assisting the Indian industries by filling the skills gap in the fields of footwear, leather accessories, fashion & lifestyle products & Retail sector. The establishment of the FDDI's another campus at Chandigarh (Mohali) filled a long-felt need in the field of footwear design and development.
The FDDI Chandigarh course admissions are based on the candidate's scores obtained in the entrance exam. The entrance exams accepted are AIST and UCEED. The applications were accepted online with the payment of an application fee of Rs 600. The FDDI Chandigarh courses are offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The degree is Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and BBA (Retail & Fashion Merchandise. FDDI Chandigarh admission is determined based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam scores, and the final counselling session. The accepted entrance exams are AIST or UCEED, which is followed by a counselling session. To be admitted, candidates must make the FDDI Chandigarh cut off list or merit list. This will be used to make final decisions. Candidates with a valid UCEED score are exempt from taking the AIST exam for the B.Des programme for both specialisations. All qualified applicants having a score from a current national-level entrance examination are eligible to participate in the admissions process for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Footwear Design and Development Institute Chandigarh application fees are Rs 600 for General/ OBC (Non-Creamy)/ GEN-EWS category students and Rs 300 for SC/ ST/ PWD category students. The fee payment has to be made online on the FDDI Chandigarh admission portal through credit/ debit card/ net banking.

FDDI Chandigarh scholarships are offered as fee concessions to reserved category students/ candidates who have not previously applied for the scholarship from any government or private body. Students can apply for FDDI scholarships based on the procedures and requirements as per the institute's norms and regulations.
FDDI will offer a 10% discount to candidates from the following reserved categories: Scheduled Caste (ST), Scheduled Tribe (ST), OBC (Non-Creamy), Economically Weaker Session (EWS), and Person with Disability (PwD).
Students who receive any other financial assistance/reimbursement/scholarship/stipend for educational expenses from any other source, such as the Central / State Government / PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) / Trusts / private persons, etc., are ineligible to apply for financial assistance under this scheme.
The institute may offer a 10% fee reduction on the first-year tuition fee (semester by semester) to FDDI students who have completed their bachelor's degree with at least 6.0 CGPA and wish to pursue a master's degree. Students must meet the eligibility requirements for the master's programme. Students must write AIST, and seats will be assigned based on the merit list. This fee reduction is not based on AIST merit.
