Gauhati University PhD Eligibility Criteria

To pursue a Ph.D. at Gauhati University, Guwahati, candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade point average from a recognized university. For SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks required. Eligibility extends to those who pass the university's entrance examination, which assesses research aptitude and subject knowledge. Exemptions from the entrance test are provided for candidates with valid scores in UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE or those who have successfully completed M.Phil. courses as per UGC guidelines. An interview also forms part of the selection process.
