LHMC Admission: The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG 2024) date has been released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam date is May 5 for students seeking admission to the MBBS and BDS programmes at LHMC New Delhi.
Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi was set up in the year 1914 with the aim to provide an opportunity for Indian women to study medicine. The college and hospital were inaugurated on February 16, 1916. Previously, the LHMC course duration used to be 7 years which included a 2-year intermediate pre-medical science programme. Later it started offering a 5-year medical course from 1935 onwards. The MBBS course was reduced to four and a half years in 1969 with the introduction of compulsory internship.
Admission to the LHMC MBBS course is done on the basis of the NEET exam scores. The college also offers courses like MD, MS, MDS, PGD, MCH, DM, etc. It is mandatory for the students to qualify for the LHMC NEET UG cutoff 2023 list to proceed further with the admission process. Admission to the LHMC MD and MS courses is done based on the NEET PG exam.
The college began with 16 students in the year 1916 to the current strength of around 200 students with the implementation of the Central Education Institution (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006. LHMC received its affiliation from the University of Delhi in 1950. The Lady Hardinge Medical College PG courses were first affiliated to Punjab University in 1954 and later to the University of Delhi in 1956. Currently, the institute admits around 150 candidates for PG courses like Neonatology, Pediatric Surgery and many more.
LHMC previously had only 80 beds for departments like Gynaecology, medicine and obstetrics. It now has 1300+ beds in its two associate hospitals namely Smt. S K Hospital and Kalawati Saran Children Hospital. LHMC New Delhi received a separate outpatient block in 1958. LHMC Nursing School started in 1916 with 11 students. In 2007, the LHMC Nursing School changed to LHMC Nursing College and has an intake of 50 probationers every year.
The Lady Hardinge Medical College does not offer employment. As a result, there aren't any campus interviews or placements. A monthly stipend is provided to doctors who enrol in MD, MS, MDS, and Super-specialty courses. After completing their MBBS, medical graduates who complete an internship at the college are granted a stipend of Rs 17,000 as compensation. After completing their PG degrees, candidates can apply for Super Specialty programmes or interview for the position of senior residents in Central Government Hospitals or Private Hospitals. These positions come with a monthly salary of approximately Rs 95,000 (including HRA) and an annual raise of Rs 2000 per month.
