The National Institute of Engineering Mysore is an autonomous institution and was founded in the year 1946. The NIE Mysore admissions to some of the prominent courses are offered to the candidates on the basis of their performance in entrance exams like KCET, COMEDK, CET, PGCET and more. It is a grant-in-aid institution that has also been approved by AICTE, New Delhi. The Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belagavi was affiliated with the National Institute of Engineering. In the year 2007, NIE Mysore received autonomy from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. The NBA & NAAC has accredited the National Institute of Engineering with B++ grade.

NIE Mysore admissions are offered to the interested candidates only after they fulfil the eligibility criteria for various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programmes. The COMEDK, UGET or KCET entrance exams are used to determine NIE Mysore admissions to B.E programmes, which is followed by a counselling process. Candidates must appear in the Karnataka PGCET in order to be considered for admission to the M.Tech. and MCA programmes. Candidates must also participate in the counselling session. The VTU Belagavi website is where applicants for PhD programmes must submit their applications. The written exam (VTU-ETR), which is followed by an interview, must be taken there as well.
Every year, the NIE Mysore UG and PG cut-off ranks are announced by the institute for the purpose of admission of the candidates.
