Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) is a public research university, which was established in 1880. It is a well-known research university in Amsterdam, Netherlands and holds an international reputation. Recognised for its efforts in providing globally competitive courses and research opportunities, VU Amsterdam was also ranked 236 under the QS Global World Rankings 2021. . VU is located in a vibrant and multicultural city, Amsterdam that has the largest population of students in the Netherlands. English is widely spoken and is the second language of the city.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The campus of VU, Amsterdam is located in the Zuidas district of Amsterdam. The university’s institutes, schools and centres within the campus include Interdisciplinary Research Institutes, National Research Schools, Faculty Research Centres, and Graduate Schools. The campus features the best facilities and amenities required for quality and standard of teaching and research work. Currently, VU offers 25 bachelors degree programmes for international students and about 150 English-taught programmes under various specializations at the Master’s level. Some of the areas of studies at VU include Law, History and Heritage, Economics and Entrepreneurship, Health Sciences and Health Care, Engineering, Arts, Culture and Literature, among others, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

While many research works are carried out at VU, it has a strong inclination towards sustainability, which is an integral part of the university’s research, teaching, infrastructure and management. Till today, over 95,000 students from around the world have graduated from VU. Anyone who graduates from VU University becomes a part of the VU‘s alumni network. The members of the alumni community share their knowledge and experiences and also guide each other for work and career development.

Every year, VU welcomes many international students from around the world for the study of bachelor, master courses and exchange programmes. The international office of VU assists students with the visa process, housing and residence permits and encourages them to be socially engaged and build a strong career path for themselves. COVID-19 Response 

To ensure the safety and health of all students, staff and faculty members, VU has implemented a strict COVID-19 Response. In their steps, the university aims to adapt their learning modes to social distancing measures, VU is dedicated to curbing the spread of the virus in the community. 

  • VU University will be offering most of its courses online while also conducting exams remotely. Few permitted programmes are being conducted on campus.

  • Online alternative education options are available for students who cannot attend on-campus classes are also being offered at the campus.

  • The university campus and classrooms have been rearranged for the safety of the students, staff and faculty members.

  • Permitted members of the university, visiting the campus must follow the safety protocols like wearing a mask all the time, avoiding social gatherings, maintaining personal hygiene etc.

  • The faculty and staff at VU are dedicated to offering quality online education. However, it also believes in personal interaction teaching and learning and is making all efforts to switch to on-campus teaching with necessary precautions and safety measures.

VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP)

VU University, Netherlands offers fellowship to international students who are enrolled in one of the Master's degree programmes offered at the university. The scholarship is funded by VU University and is offered to students who have outstanding academic achievements in previous academic programmes.

The minimum eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship are as follows:

  • The candidate must have excellent academic achievements. A GPA of at least 80% marks is needed to be considered for the scholarship.

  • The candidate must be enrolled in a full-time English taught Master’s degree programme at t Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

  • The candidates must have studied previously in the Netherlands.

Value: 

VUFP covers the tuition fees. Living costs and additional allowance are not covered under the scholarship.

The scholarship is offered for the one or two-year Master’s programmes. The scholarship is renewed in the second year if the student has achieved 100% of the credits in the first year.

How to Apply for VU University Scholarship?

After applying for a Master’s degree programme at VU University, candidates can register for the VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP). The scholarship application is available online on the official website of VU University. 

Interested candidates must access the online application form, fill it and submit it before the deadline date.
