UGC to Include UGC NET Marks for Ph.D Admissions: The University Grants Commission has recently announced that the scores of UGC NET examination will now be used for admission to Ph.D. courses in the country from the 2024-25 academic year. The commission has shared this inclusion in a public notice dated March 27, 2024 on the official website. The admissions for Ph.D. in various universities is currently being conducted individually making it a rigorous task for the applicants to go through the admission process of each university.
Ph.D Admission Process to Become Easier After Inclusion of UGC NET Marks
UGC NET exam is being conducted by the University Grants Commission twice every year to determine the eligibility for the posts of Assistant Professors and Junior Research Scholarships (JRF) in the country. However, the commission called a meeting of a special committee on March 13 this year to look for the possibilities of considering the marks for Ph.D admissions.
The commission came up with the conclusion that the candidates who have qualified in the UGC NET June 2024 will be considered under the following categories:From the academic session 2024-2025, all universities can use NET score for admission to PhD programmes in place of entrance tests conducted by the different universities/HEIs. Category 1: The candidates will be eligible for (i) Ph.D admissions with JRF AND (ii) Assistant Professor
Category 2: The candidates will be eligible for (i) Ph.D admissions without JRF AND (ii) Assistant Professor
Category 3: The candidates will be only eligible for Ph.D admissions and not JRF OR Assistant Professors
Admission to various Ph.D. courses in the universities will be conducted based on merit and percentage scored in UGC NET exam 2024.
