The University of Birmingham Dubai is accepting applications for its MSc Urban Planning programme, which will begin in January 2023 and September 2023. The primary goal of this programme is to prepare the future generation of urban planners who will need to take a multi- and inter-disciplinary approach to handle contemporary issues and solve associated difficulties that metropolitan regions face.

According to an official statement by the university, the curriculum is based on world-class research conducted by the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences. According to the release, Dubai is an ideal site to study Urban Planning due to its anticipated expansion under the Dubai 2040 Urban Masterplan. The curriculum delves deeply into the key obstacles to achieving such development in a sustainable manner.

Programme Delivery

Furthermore, the MSc Urban Planning degree will provide planners in government, private organisations, NGOs, and communities with the understanding, skills, and information they will need to provide innovative solutions to complex issues affecting a varied spectrum of stakeholders. A variety of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, practitioner presentations, site visits, fieldwork, and studio work, will be used, with an emphasis on education that engages with the real world as much as possible, with Dubai serving as an urban laboratory.

To accomplish this, assessments will be authentic and will include real-life case studies, which will improve not only understanding and skills but also employability.

Course Dates

The MSc Urban Planning programme is accepting applications for the January 2023 and September 2023 intakes.

Entry Requirements

  • To be eligible for this programme, applicants must have a three or four-year bachelor's degree from a recognised university.

  • Bachelor's degree holders in a relevant subject will be expected to have a 60% or better as the final aggregate.

  • Applicants with an aggregate of 55% in undergraduate coursework and relevant work experience may be considered on an individual basis, depending on the awarding institution.

  • Furthermore, applicants' IELTS scores should be no lower than 5.5 in any band and 6.0 overall.

Application Deadline and Fees

The application deadline for the MSc Urban Planning at the University of Birmingham Dubai is in mid-December for the January 2023 intake. There are no application fees. The total tuition charge for the January 2023 and September 2023 is AED 112,666 (about £26,120).

Documents Required

Before a decision on an application may be made, the following information is normally required:

  • One academic reference (or, if applicable to the programme, one from the applicant's employer).

  • Academic transcripts (originals or verified photocopies) for all previous degrees

  • Personal Statement (about 5m000 characters) describing why you want to study in your selected programme.

  • If English is not your first language and you have already passed a test, you can obtain a certificate demonstrating your proficiency in the language (not mandatory to submit at the time of application). On a case-by-case basis, students may be considered for a waiver.

  • Applicants may be required to provide additional documentation in support of their application.

Scholarships

Scholarship opportunities at the University of Birmingham Dubai are intended to aid all incoming students, and the financial benefits can be carried forward throughout the programme at the foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. Based on academic performance, the university will grant scholarships of up to 40% to Indian students for enrollment in January 2023 and September 2023.
