Canada Deploys Money, Resources for Speedy Clearance of Student Visa Backlogs

The government of Canada is working tirelessly to make sure that Indian students who have taken admission to their colleges and universities get timely visas. The country is investing money and resources to clear the huge visa application backlogs quickly.

The High Commissioner for Canada in India, Cameron MacKay, said that it was unfortunate to have post-Covid 19 pandemic visa backlogs in every category which is extremely serious. The government is making every attempt to clear the backlogs as soon as possible. This summer, Canada is trying in every way to ensure that every Indian student planning to go to Canada to study will get their study visas on time.

Mr MacKay also highlighted that India is at the top of every category of Canadian visa including tourists, students, temporary residents and permanent residents. He also assured that India and Canada were again negotiating their direct air service agreement with India and hoped that there will be more direct flights. At present, 25 flights are flying between India and Canada.

The High Commissioner also noted that Canada and India had a commercial relationship of CAD 100 billion where Canada has invested CAD 70 billion in terms of portfolio investment and private sector investment in renewable energies, infrastructure and hotel chains in India.

He further added that India and Canada are part of the G-20 countries and the vast size of their economies calls for larger economic relationships. At present the relationship is underperforming and they would like to change through a trade and investment treaty.
