UK Student Visa Applicants Face Long Delays Amid Surge in Applications

With international borders reopening, the UK, like other countries, is facing a sudden increase in visa applications. The unprecedented number of visa applications has caused the processing time to increase from the usual three weeks to five weeks.

The UK is currently facing a delayoftwo weeks in student visa waitingtimes due to a sudden increase in visa applications as the borders reopened after over two years. The processing time for UK student visa applications has increased from the normal period of three weeks to five weeks.

As Covid-19 restrictions are being removed, the UK has beenregisteringan increased number of visa applications for leisure, work, and education and it is becoming harder for the UK Embassies globally to keep up with the timely processing of visa applications.

In an announcement, the UK government has accepted that the student visa processing time is currently taking five weeks on average as the immigration department is overwhelmed by the surge in visa applications.

Students travelling to the UK need to apply foraTier 4 Student Visa. It can be applied for by students who are at least 16 years of age and have been offered a place on a course by a licensed student sponsor. Additionally, students are required to be fluent in the English language and have enough finances to support their education and lifestyle in the UK.

Students enrolling in English language courses or short-term courses that are six to 11 months longcan apply for short-term study visas.

A spokesperson from the British High Commission presented a public apology on behalf of the UK government in an interview for the delay. He stated that the department is working consistently to bring the processing time back to normal.

He revealed that July and August are the peak months with the highest percentage of student visa applications. Students have been urged to make early applications to avoid delays. The department is continuously collaborating with the education sector and commercial partners to deliver the message to students.

Other countries like the US, Canada, Germany, and other European countries are also going through the same challenges and are trying to update their visa processing systems.
