IELTS Exam Cheating Scam Busted in Ludhiana

The police have busted a racket of four people involved in an IELTS cheating scam. The accused helped students cheat on the exam with the help of electronic devices. 

IELTS Exam Cheating Scam Busted in Ludhiana

A gang of offenders has been busted by the Ludhiana police that helped candidates cheat inside an IELTS test centre in exchange for money. The police have claimed that the accused took at least INR 2 lakhs from aspirants who managed to score 6 bands or more in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

Recently, some students of Khanna, Ludhiana district were assisted by the gang. The police accompanied the aides while the main crime master was absconding.

The police have recovered 12 devices from the accused, including five electronic SIM devices and seven Bluetooth headphones. The Bluetooth headphones were referred to as “MAKHI” in their code language. 

The four people booked are the gang leaders Gurbhej Singh of village Chakbadhai of Muktsar, Harsangeet Singh and Jaspreet Singh from Moga and Dilbagh Singh of Rode village.

Ludhiana additional DCP-2 Suhail Qasim Mir explained the modus operandi of the criminals and said that the accused supplied devices such as mini microphones and Bluetooth earphones to candidates while the exams were being held.

The officer informed that Gurbhej Singh was the owner of an IELTS Training institute in Muktsar named Master IETLS and Immigration Centre. He accessed and solved the IELTS question papers and sent them to Dilbagh Singh on WhatsApp. He also provided candidates with Ear Bluetooth and electronic sim devices through his aides. No sooner did the exam start, than Dilbagh Singh and others communicated the answers to the candidates. After the declaration of results, sizeable money was charged by them from candidates.

To date, the accused have helped several candidates from Khanna, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Moga and Gurdaspur districts to cheat in the IELTS exam.

One Maruti Swift Desire Car, five mobile phones, a solved IELTS paper, and a passport copy of a candidate were seized from the accused.

SHO Sahnewal police station, Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar said that they suspect the employees’ involvement of the Gurgaon-based company IDP which conducts the IELTS exam. They are probing into the matter as without the involvement of the employees, it was not possible to send the devices into examination halls and or access papers beforehand.
