An Indian Delegation has gone to the US under the leadership of Suresh Prabhu, Indian Union Minister, to explore possible educational partnerships between India and the US.
It has only been weeks since the Ministerial Dialogue was held between representatives of two countries. It was decided during the dialogue to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in education and skill development, and scholar mobility was one of the mediums devised in the said meeting.
Mr. Prabhu, Chancellor of Rishiwood University (Haryana, India), has led the delegation to various US cities, like Boston, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The tour has involved meetings with business leaders, academicians, and students. The delegation has worked diligently to highlight India’s growth in the education sector during these meetings to ensure interest and participation in the partnership programs that are to be launched.
During the tour, Mr. Prabhu met with various officials and community leaders. He observed that coming to the US has led many individuals to success due to ample opportunities available in the country.
According to him, India also has to provide various opportunities and effect systemic improvements to ensure success and prosperity for individuals coming to the country. These steps only could be affected through education and its proper growth.

According to Rishiwood University, the delegation is set to launch various educational partnerships with US Universities through methods of semester exchange, faculty exchange, research projects, double degrees, etc. among various other methods.

In a joint statement issued after the fourth India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, India and the US, on April 11, 2022, presented a united front in further strengthening their cooperation through joint projects in the fields of education and skill development.
Conducted in Washington, in the dialogue, representatives of both nations agreed on people-to-people linkages being the best for the relations between the two countries. Both the countries have decided to establish a new India-US Education and Skills Development Working Group.

Strong opinions were expressed to support student and scholar mobility. The Ministers also incorporated the December 2021 bilateral Consular Dialogue minutes to continue the efforts in reciprocal movement of professionals, business persons, skilled workers, experts, and scientific personnel.
The open and smooth working travel routes between the countries were appreciated and recognised to ease tourism and business-related movement. The smooth movement of skilled professionals, students, entrepreneurs, investors, and business personnel has fueled innovation and economic opportunities.
The Fulbright-Nehru program and its contribution to exchange for academics and professionals were applauded and accepted. The program has played a special role in bringing the two countries closer and has responsibly established a strong Indian-American diaspora of four million, thereby, strengthening the relations between the two countries.
The need to protect cultural heritage through negotiation for an MoU was also put forward. Deeper cooperation and assistance to authorities to combat trade in cultural artefacts and facilitate repatriation were advocated.
India also welcomed the in-person interview waiver decision as well which the US had announced for non-immigrant visa applicants who have previously held a US visa. The waiver was applicable for academic and vocational students, intracompany transferees, and people in speciality occupations.
The Social Security Totalisation Agreement was also discussed and collective agreement was expressed on a need to further engage in similar agreements.
The US expressed gratitude to India for the support extended to the “Defence POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)” mission in India. India expressed commitment to future DPAA missions.

A need for dialogue on contemporary issues, such as the involvement of women in people-to-people linkages, was highlighted. Other topics of discussion during the Dialogue included defence, science and technology, trade, climate, public health, and people-to-people ties.
The two nations carved deeper cooperation on various levels through successful dialogue.
The event was chaired by Dr S. Jaishankar, Indian External Affairs Minister; Rajnath Singh, Indian Defence Minister; Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State; and Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defence.
