Earlier on May 2, 2022, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that India would provide a list of Indian students who had a legitimate need to return to China. Given that the list was submitted a long time ago, Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was questioned about any deadlines for their admission.

On May 26, 2022, China had begun to permit the resettlement of Indian students after more than two years following the Covid-19 outbreak. When questioned about postings on social media by certain Chinese diplomats about the impending implementation of a new visa policy for all international students, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stated that they are actively working to bring back international students to the country and that the procedure for returning of Indian students has already been started.

As per reports, Covid-19 visa constraints have kept over 23,000 Indian students, most of whom are studying medicine, at home. Earlier, China had requested the names of Indian students who wanted to return right away to continue their studies, and the Indian embassy responded with a list of numerous necessitated students.
