Over the past few years, Canada has been working on economic recovery which has led to several programmes and immigration policies being introduced in recent years. One of the major areas where Canada has been focusing its efforts on is making its immigration policies simpler, inviting thousands of immigrant workers and students to apply for PR and assisting in the country’s economic recovery goals.
On July 6th, this year, the immigration minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, invited PR applications through Express Entry draws, after a nearly two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Eligible applicants will be able to apply for Permanent Residency through the Federal Skilled Trades Programme (FSTP), the Federal Skilled Worker Programme (FSWP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
An additional programme currently available in Canada is the Super Visa, where the federal government increased the stay period under the Super Visa to five years per entry. Currently, those with a Super Visa have the option to extend their by two years while staying in Canada. In other words, Super Visa holders will be able to stay in Canada for a total of 7 years.
However, there is another method available for applicants looking to get a PR in Canada, which is getting a Canadian PR through investment. In 2015, immigrants could easily get PR in Canada through investment.
As per sources, the Canadian government currently offers two programmes covering the Start-up and Self-employed visa programmes. These programmes are designed to help immigrants seek PR in Canada in a much easier manner, and have become one of the goals of the 2022-24 immigration levels plan of Canada.
According to the immigration levels plan, the Canadian government is aiming to introduce a 50% increase in the issuance of new PR visas in this category. Additionally, the applicant’s spouse and eligible dependent children will also become eligible for a residency visa. Further, through this step, the applicant will also be able to apply for citizenship.
