British McDonald Fellowships 2022 is a fully-funded two-year research placement programme. This fellowship is offered by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation in the honour of Professor Ian McDonald for international applicants interested in pursuing higher education in the UK.
The programme offers extensive research opportunities for international students in multiple sclerosis while the applicants are being enrolled in programmes like MD, MSc, and PhD. Additionally, it offers passionate researchers to be a part of this joint research programme to advance their research levels.
Funding Grants of British McDonald Fellowships
The fellowship consists of a two-year grant, around GBP 30,000 per year, to cover travel and living costs, and an additional contribution of GBP 2,000 per year to the host institution.
For the year 2022, the McDonald Fellowship is more flexible on its utilisation of grants if they proffer virtual projects.
After the Covid ends, the second-year grant of the host institution will be utilised for travelling and living purposes for fellowship winners to attend the annual congress of ECTRIMS (European Committee for Treatment and Research in MS).

Eligibility Criteria for British McDonald Fellowships
All international candidates must be:

Citizens of low- or middle-income countries

Educated to postgraduate level (at least MSc, preferable PhD/MD) in a field related to multiple sclerosis

Focused on their research in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis

Working in another country on a project that started at least 6 months before

Studying a project financed by an MS International Federation grant in another country
On the other hand, applicants who could not join the training session for MS atthe renowned institute due to financial crisis are also eligible for this Fellowship grant.
Steps to Apply for British McDonald Fellowships
Step 1: Complete all sections of the online application form
Step 2: Provide a supporting statement at the end of the application
Step 3: Add names and contact details of three referees, including the applicants current supervisor or employer
However, before starting the application process, MS applicants are required to discuss their research proposal with the host institution.

Application Deadline of McDonald Fellowships
The final date to submit the application, host supporting statement, and references is June 30, 2022. It is highly recommended for international students to adhere to the application deadline for increased chances of selection. The Fellowships results/winners will be declared in September 2022.
