In recent years, language diversity has flourished in Canada with the influx of immigrants into the country. In Canada, Punjabi is the fourth most widely spoken language after English and French followed by Mandarin which is the third most broadly spoken language in the country.

Although English and French continue to be the two most widely used languages in Canada, yet, French has gradually become less common as a spoken language. The percentage of individuals who speak French in the country has decreased from 22.2% in 2016 to 21.4% in 2021.

Amongst the nation's most extensively used languages, Punjabi has made a name for itself. Often described as a tonal language, Punjabi is the fourth most widely spoken language after English and French followed by Mandarin.

More than 90% of Canadians speak one of the country's two official languages at their home. However, as more immigrants have been inflexed to study in Canadaor work throughout the years, the country's linguistic variety has grown.

As per research,between 2016 and 2021, there was a significant boost in the number of Canadians who spoke a South Asian language.

The Canadian population rose by 5.2% between 2016 and 2021, where more than half a million Canadians used to speak Punjabi in the year 2021. In this period, the use of some Indian native languages saw a sharp increase, most notably Malayalam, which saw a spike of 129%. Based on research, Hindi (66%) was the language most often spoken, followed by Punjabi (49%) and Gujarati (43%) in descending order of popularity.

According to a report, there were at least eight times as many South Asian-speaking immigrants as there were Canadians as a whole. At least one in five people who immigrated to Canada between 2016 and 2021 were from India.
