Telangana Begins Special COVID-19 Vaccination Drive for Students with Study Abroad Plans

The government of Telangana, on June 5,  began a special Covid-19 vaccination for students with study abroad plans and who have to leave for their studies in the next two months. The same is being held under the guidance of the Institute of Preventive Medicine in Hyderabad.

As per Telangana government's initiative to vaccinate students with study abroad plans on priority, the government, on June 5, started a special Covid-19 vaccination drive under the supervision of the Institute of Preventive Medicine in Hyderabad. The same is being held for those students who are leaving for studies in the next two months.

In order to get vaccinated, students need to bring their student visa, passport, official admission letter sent by the respective university.

Dr. Shankar, Director of Institute of Preventive Medicine, told ANI that the special drive was initiated by the state government in order to ensure the safety of students who were leaving for studies abroad. In order to register for the same, one may visit a dedicated website that was started only few days back. He added that already around 7,000 students had registered for vaccination.

Dr. Shankar mentioned that a total of 350 shots were given to students on the very first day of the drive and that only Covishield was being used as many countries do not recognise Covaxin. He further added that the next/second dose will be administered after four weeks instead of 10 weeks.

After a student has received the second dose, they will be given a vaccination certificate.

According to official data, a total of 64,17,283 vaccine doses have been administered across the state of Telangana.

The Telangana State Cabinet had decided to prioritise vaccination of students with study abroad plans on May 30, 2021.
