Canada is all set to welcome new immigrants to the country, owing to the retirement of a large number of Canadians. Immigrants including skilled workers will fill the shortage in the labour market.
Sean Fraser, the immigration minister of Canada tweeted that the economic need for immigration has been an absolute necessity as more than five million Canadians are set to retire by the end of this decade. He also said they would carry on welcoming a record number of immigrants to contribute to their communities.
Reports show that Canada will welcome 431,645 immigrants in 2022. Immigration.ca report has outlined Canada’s current immigration level plans where they target 447,055 new permanent residents in 2023 and 451,000 in 2024.

Canada is inviting more immigrants to apply for permanent residency as the labour market has shrunk with people aged 55 and above retiring and creating an employment gap of 1 million in the country.
The cities providing jobs under Express Entry are Ottawa, Quebec, Calgary, Brantford, Kelowna Toronto, Saskatoon, Victoria, Halifax and Abbotsford. In Ottawa, the employment percentage increased by 67% last year whereas in Brantford it increased by 17.3%.
The most suitable pathways and programmes to apply for jobs as economic migrants and PR in Canada through the Express Entry system in Canada are Federal Skilled Workers (FSW), Canada Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Traders (FST).
The industries with huge vacancies in Canada are agriculture and related production, electrical and construction trades, industrial, technical jobs in natural resources, maintenance and equipment operation trades, manufacturing and utility supervisors, processing, and central control operators. Vacancies are also available for cooks, bakers and chefs.

CIC News has reported that 9 million people in Canada will reach their retirement age this decade.
A recent survey conducted by RBC has suggested that one-third of Canadians are retiring early and three out of ten retirees are changing their retirement date due to the pandemic. On the other hand, the fertility rate decreased in 2020 to 1.4 children per woman. It will be challenging to replace the retirees if the population rate does not increase to 2.1 babies per woman.
