Savitribai Phule Pune University, popularly known as SPPU or UniPune, is one of the largest public state universities in India. The university was established in 1949 as Poona University under the Poona University Act passed by the Bombay Legislature in 1948. Over the years, the university has proved its academic and research excellence bringing it the title of the ‘Oxford of the East’. It also has been ranked by several national and international ranking bodies among the top Indian universities. In fact, students often wonder: What is the rank of SPPU in the NIRF ranking? They must know that it has been ranked 19th in the university category and 34th in the overall category in the NIRF Ranking List 2023. It has also been ranked in the 601-800 band in the overall category by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023. 

UniPune is also approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an ‘A+’ grade. The SPPU course list is vast and includes UG, PG, diploma, PG diploma, PhD, and certificate courses in engineering, management, arts, science, and commerce. All these courses are offered under its 46 academic departments. Admissions to the UG, PG, PhD courses are offered based on an applicant's performance in the prescribed entrance examination. Pune University also accepts scores of entrance exams such as MAH MBA CET, MAH MCA CET GATE, CAT, MAT, ATMA, XAT, OEE, etc.

The UniPune campus is spread across an area of about 411 acres. There are a total of 705 affiliated colleges, 234 recognised institutes, and 71 research institutes under its umbrella. The university’s excellent academic and placement record along with excellent facilities attract both national and foreign students. The campus has hostels for both boys and girls. Interested students can also pursue their education at the university through its distance learning courses.

CAT 2023 Schedule

The UniPune curriculum follows a semester-based system. Students must clear all semesters to get their final degree certificates from the university. The university conducts the odd semester examinations generally in December/January and even semester examinations in May/ June. Svaitribai Phule Pune University started with only 18 colleges affiliated with the university. In its initial days, its jurisdiction was spread across a total of 12 districts of Western Maharashtra.
