Utkal University is ranked 93rd in among the top universities under NIRF ranking 2023 with a score of 43.45. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has opened the NEET PG 2023 correction window and it can be accessed at nbe.edu.in. 

Utkal University has a long history. On 13th June 1943, Utkal University Bill was passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly by Pandit Godavarish Mishra, the then Minister of Education. In 1950 the territorial jurisdiction of the university was not specified in the year 1950, so territorial jurisdiction was defined as including the whole Odisha State. The university has several departments and has taken charge of several constituent institutions. 

At the present University of Utkal is working with 27 post-graduate teaching and research departments on campus. It has offered 15 sponsored courses, three UGC Sponsored innovative programs, and three constituent institutions, the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education, University Law College at Vani Vihar, and M.S. Law College at Cuttack.

The PG Departments of Utkal have acquired Departmental Research Support status by UGC. The institute runs more than 200 affiliated colleges in different streams such as Humanities, Social Science, Commerce and Management, etc. The Utkal University is in jurisdiction over nine districts, including Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jaipur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Puri.

It is the oldest university in Orissa and the 17th oldest university in India. An effective curriculum acts as a road map for delivering quality education. Utkal Curriculum follows a semester-wise course structure where each student will be allotted a grade based on their performance in the semester exams. The number of semesters in each course may vary depending on the duration of the course. Semester exams include both theory and practical examinations in respective subjects. Other than semester exams, model tests, assessment tests, and class tests are conducted to understand students' progression.
