3664 Female Candidates made it to IITs in 2025 through JEE Advanced; A detailed report
A record 3,664 female students secured IIT seats in JEE Advanced 2025, marking 20.15% representation. IIT Tirupati, Madras, and Delhi led with the highest female intake, reflecting the success of supernumerary initiatives.
JEE Advanced 2025 Female Representation: The JEE Advanced 2025 results brought in a positive change in the gender representation in the IITs. Out of the total seats, 3,664 female candidates got admission in different IITs this year, which is 20.15% . This is the largest female participation ever in the history of IIT admissions and shows the continued success of efforts to encourage women in engineering.
Among all the institutes, IIT Tirupati had the highest percentage of female students at 21.57% closely followed by IIT Madras(21.09%) and IIT Delhi (20.63%) . These numbers are a testament to the success of the supernumerary seat policy initiated by the Ministry of Education in 2018, which reserves extra seats for women to improve their representation in IITs.

An increase in female representation from 18.5% in 2023 to 20.15% in 2025 indicates the tangible success of the policy of supernumerary seats, mentorship schemes, and outreach activities like 'Udaan' and 'Vigyan Jyoti' to motivate girls to take up STEM education.
As more women are admitted to the IITs annually, the institutes are gradually transforming themselves into a more gender-balanced and friendly academic culture, to the better for gender diversity in India’s premier engineering institutions.
