4.7 lakh medical aspirants had appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test phase second (NEET-II) on July 24, 2016. The exam was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admissions to undergraduate medical courses across various central, private, deemed as well as state medical and dental colleges in India.

NEET-II was tougher than the previous paper that was held in May, said teachers. It is also being said that both the phases of the NEET entrance exam were not levelled.

Students also agreed that the Physics section was tough as compared to the level in NEET-I. However, there were some who said that phase two was relatively easier than the previous paper.

Amardeep Jha Gautam, Managing Director, Elite Institute, said that the questions were simpler than those in phase one and were based on the basic concepts. There was a little hitch in the physics exam but the questions were compiled from the NCERT books and students who referred these books for preparation wouldn’t have faced any difficulty solving the questions, he added.

Ankit Patel, who resides in Borivli said that Organic Chemistry and Physics were the sections that he found a bit tough. He expects to secure a score from 400 to 425 and said that the rest depends largely on cut-offs.

A lot of medical aspirants had not appeared for the first round of NEET. Taking a note of this, CBSE decided to conduct a second round of NEET so that the students can appear in order to take admissions to medical schools.

A large number of students who appeared for NEET-II had also given NEET-I but cancelled their scores in order to perform better in the second round.

Keyur Cholera, a teacher based in Andheri said, “Some students had cancelled their NEET I scores as they had expected to score better in the second phase. They may suffer as the question paper was tougher.”

Admissions to government medical and dental colleges will be done based on the score secured by the applicants in NEET.

NEET-II cut-off is expected to freeze between 500 and 575 from a total of 720 marks.
