85% NEET PG Management Quota Seats in Telangana to be Reserved for Locals
The Telangana government has reserved 85% of PG medical management quota seats for local students, giving them a better access to medical education and over 388 additional seats across the state.
T elangana Reserves 85% of PG Medical Seats for Local Students: The Telangana government made a big move to support local medical students by prioritising 85% of the PG medical seats under the management quota for them. Earlier, these seats were filled under the All India quota, which made it very difficult for students from Telangana. With this new rule, hundreds of local students will be able to make use of more opportunities for studying PG medical courses within the state.
This was decided after the Medical and Health Minister, Damodar Rajanarasimha , explained the issue with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that private medical colleges were discriminating against Telangana students. Upon learning of the situation, the Chief Minister held an urgent meeting and directed the Health Department Secretary, Christina Chongthu , to issue a Government Order (G.O.) for its implementation.

The change will be effective from this year’s counselling conducted by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS). Thus, local students will get an increase of 318 PG medical seats and 70 PG dental seats . This should come as a boon and add joy for students desperate to get an equitable chance."
At present, 50% seats in government PG medical colleges in Telangana are allocated to the All India quota, and the remaining 50% to local students under the convener quota. Out of these, 1,511 are postgraduate seats in the State’s 19 private colleges. So far, the entire management quota has been available for students from all states in the country, but now 85 per cent of seats in the MQ1 category will be reserved for students in Telangana.
This new rule is a major relief for students in Telangana. Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and the Junior Doctors Association thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for this crucial, student-friendly decision, which will enable local students to build strong careers in the field of medicine.
