ANU Scraps Telugu from 2nd Year UG Syllabus
Leadership Qualities and Moral Values, Ethicsa are the new papers introduced in the place of Telugu. The Telugu lectureres of various colleges expressed their disappointment over the University's decision.
Acharya Nagarjuna University has scrapped Telugu from the syllabus of 2nd year UG, 4th Semester. The University has passed a circular to all the affiliated colleges regarding this. In the place of Telugu, the university has introduced Leadership Development, Moral Values and ethics. The lecturers of Telugu of most of the colleges expressed their disappointment over the University’s decision.
Previously, the 1st and 2nd year UG have Telugu in the curriculum for the 4 semesters. This year, the students will be studying Telugu only for the three semesters and in the 4th semester they need to study the new introduced subject in the place of Telugu.
Most of the lecturers opined that, the Andhra Pradesh Government has given preference for Telugu in Group – I & 2 exams. Telugu has been introduced as one of the subjects in National Eligibility test and State Eligibility Test. At this juncture, it is not apt to scrap mother language from one semester. After the thorough discussions and debates, the University has taken decision to scrap Telugu in the 4th semester of UG.
The newly introduced papers would help the students for personality development and building up moral values along with leadership qualities which are very essential for the overall development of a student.
