AP: Foundation Stone for VIT Campus to be Laid on November 3

The foundation stone for Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh will be laid on November 3, 2016, in a grand style. The foundation stone will be laid by Honourable Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu and M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development.

The government has allotted 200 acres of land for the construction of VIT. Its construction will take place in two phases. 100 acres of land will be utilised in the first phase. The academic session will commence from June 2017. VIT will be the first educational institute to set up its campus in Andhra Pradesh's new capital Amaravati. The varsity has paid Rs. 50 crores for 100 acres of land.

The new VIT campus in Amaravati will offer courses in Engineering and Technology with an emphasis on hands-on experience, real-world industrial applications and Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS).

The Cabinet gave the nod for the establishment of four universities in Amaravati in the month of July. For this purpose, the government had allocated 100 acres of land initially for the establishment of VIT, Centurion, SRM and Amity University. Similarly, the Cabinet has given the nod for the establishment of four new private universities on October 31, 2016. The government has been taking extensive measures to make Amaravati an educational and technological hub.

Recently, the State Higher Education Department has been shifted to Amaravati from Hyderabad. The HRD Ministry of Andhra Pradesh has also given the nod for the privatisation of degree colleges.
