Assam Medical College Dibrugarh Marks World Heath Day

The Department of Community Medicine, Assam Medical College organised a national level quiz competition for undergraduate students under the aegis of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine on April 7 to mark the occasion of World Health Day. The function was attended by many dignitaries and top-notch doctors. Different colleges from the country came to take part in the quiz competition. The competition was aimed at developing the knowledge and excellence base among the students. Among the guests were Dr B Basumatary, Principal In-Charge, Dr HC Kalita, Vice-Principal, faculty members and student’s community of the college.

Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the premier and oldest medical institutes of the NE region of India. The institute has created countless well-known doctors in the state since its inception. Every year, to mark the occasion of World Health Day, the institute organises various events and competitions for the upcoming doctors to spread awareness on medicine, diseases, and health.This year’s quiz comprised questions ranging from history, facts and figures to recent developments in the field of medicine and health sciences. Quiz Master Dr V Upadhyaya conducted the quiz. The winners bagged prizes along with a cash prize of Rs.5000 and certificates.

The WHO has selected diabetes, a non-communicable disease that directly impacts millions of people globally in low and middle-income countries as a priority area for the year 2016. WHO is marking World Health Day 2016 by calling for action on diabetes. In its first Report on Diabetes, WHO highlighted the need to step up prevention and treatment of the disease. The theme of the World Health Day 2016 was ‘Beat Diabetes-Scale up prevention, strengthen care and enhance surveillance.’
