The convocation of Bangalore University took place today i.e. 7th June’16, Tuesday. It was the 51st convocation but the first one that took place at the Jnana Jyothi auditorium in the city. The guest of honour of the event was Higher Education Minister, T B Jayachandra and Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala also participated in the event. The chief guest of the event was Mr Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and he also addressed the gathering at the convocation.
No honorary doctorates were distributed but there were many names, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the running for the honorary doctorate but Bangalore University has decided not to confer it on anyone this year.
History was made today at the convocation as Krishnamurthy S, who did M.Sc. in Physics at Bangalore University (BU) bagged 7 gold medals. He did not have much privileges but that didn’t stop him. His father is a tailor and mother is a homemaker. He was not able to afford the learning material, most of the books so, he solely depended on the library for most information.
“I had to make use of library notes as I couldn’t afford anything else, my father being a tailor by profession. I am also grateful to my fellow student, Rajashree who did group study with me," said Krishnamurthy S.
Shreelata C S, begged the first rank in B.Sc along with this she won four gold medals and four cash awards.
She is a student of the Government College for Women, Kolar. She said, “I am surprised that i got the first position. I expected to be in the top 10 but not 1st but it’s okay, I am very happy. After this, I want to pursue research in Applied Mathematics and become a professor some day”.
Another topper in BCom, Meghashree SV said, "I am very proud that students from Kolar are topping exams. My aim is to become an IAS officer". She is a regular topper scoring high as she was a topper in PUC and SSLC as well. She won five gold medals and three cash awards.
The event ended on a happy note and the authorities wished the students for their bright future.
