B.Com Gets More Takers in Colleges of Mysuru

After the announcement of the result of the 12th in the state of Karnataka, students are now making beelines at the colleges seeking admission into B.Com course. Due to the huge demand of B.Com Programme, several colleges have increased the intake of the seats in their colleges.

• Around 40 colleges in greater Mysuru offer BCom Course.
• The placement prospect of B.Com students is very high.
• BCom Students have lots of opportunities to pursue their further studies.

A senior official of Maharaja's College said that the Maharaja's College had received 1,200 applications for the 240 seats in BCom last year. Now there is huge demand and supply gap. The soft skill training program offered by the department of youth empowerment and sport, along with the integration of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the curriculum has led to students being equipped to compete on the global stage.

While another official of JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science said that the government has observed a growing demand for commerce courses and has opened several commerce colleges to help students from rural areas. This subject has better placement prospects. Now students from rural areas are more and more taking commerce. They have understood the limitations of Arts and Science Subjects. The colleges have 180 seats in B.com and 45 more seats have been added.”

The times have changed. In this global age, students prefer to take commerce as a subject. Event student from poor and backward areas prefer to take commerce. This is because of this globalized economy the demand for getting jobs is high," said an official of Mysore Evening College principal.

However, heads of several Arts college say that students still prefer to take Arts especially those who are preparing for the civil service examination and want to take teaching jobs. "Last year, we received 1,500 applications for the 1,200 seats in our college," said another top official of Maharani's Arts College
