CBSE Class 10 Science Exam 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, February 25. As there were mixed reactions to the Mathematics question paper, students are now worried about the difficulty level of the Science question paper. Over the years, the Science paper has been 'Moderate', but there has been a shift to conceptual-based question rather than rote memory-based questions. The emphasis was more on real-world application-based questions. Therefore, understanding the questions properly is the key factor while attempting the exam. A thorough practice of the last 3 years' question papers and competency-based questions provided in the NCERT textbook are must to enhance the last-minute preparation.

CBSE Class 10 Science Paper: An Overview of Previous Years' Difficulty Level

Here is the detailed analysis of the last 3 years' Science question paper -
YearDifficulty LevelDifficult Section
2025Moderate paper with emphasis on fundamental knowledge and critical thinking skillsCase-based questions were slightly tricky and time-consuming
2024Moderate to easy paper with almost 70% direct questionsMCQs were more conceptual-based and time-consuming
2023Moderate and lengthy, with Chemistry questions being the toughestSection D questions were slightly tough

Usually, the question paper is divided in such a way that Chemistry and Physics shall have 25% weightage each, while the Biology section consists of 30% marks weightage. While 70% questions are doable and not time-consuming, 30% questions have always been tough over the years that require more critical-thinking skills.

Subject-wise Analysis of CBSE Class 10 Science

Here's how the subject-wise trends have been in the Science exam over the last three years -
  • From the Biology subject, Life Processes and Reproduction always remained the dominant chapters. Majority questions appear from these topics
  • From the Physics subject, Light and Electricity remained as dominant chapters, but there is a catch. The questions from Electricity were mostly numerical, and the questions from Light were mostly diagram-based
  • From the Chemistry subject, Metals & Non-Metals and Carbon Compounds were the dominating topics. You can expect more assertion-based questions from the Chemistry subject
You can also checkCBSE Class 10 Science Chapter-Wise Marks Distribution 2025-26to have a clear understanding of unit-wise division of marks. Students must note that NCERT textbooks should not be ignored, as 70% questions are directly-based on the NCERT syllabus. On the other hand, Diagram questions always carry 3 to 5 marks, and practicing/ labelling them 1-2 days before the exam is a must. As a part of last-minute revision, try solving 5-mark questions within 10-12 minutes to improve accuracy because this is where most students lose marks.

This analysis has been prepared after thoroughly analyzing the previous years' papers. Students are advised to consider the above information as a basic reference as the actual question paper difficulty level of 2026 Science paper might vary.
