CBSE to Roll Out On-Screen Marking Evaluation for Class 12 Board Exams 2026: What does it mean to students?
CBSE will implement on-screen marking for Class 12 answer sheets from the 2026 board exams. The digital system aims to ensure quick, accurate, and transparent evaluation.
Class 12 Board Exams 2026:The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, has made a major announcement regarding the change of the evaluation system of the Class 12 Board Examinations 2026, with theintroduction of the On-Screen Marking system to replace the time-consuming manual evaluationof answer sheets with the new electronic method of evaluation. These announcements are made with the objective of making the result processing more efficient, transparent, and honest for the nearly 46 lakhs of students who appear for the Class 12 board exams.
According to the new on-screen marking scheme, scanned copies of the answer scripts prepared by the students in writing will be uploaded to the digital platform, where the examiners will give marks for the answer scripts directly on the computer screen. This will help minimise the errors likely to occur due to totalizing and also save time for the declaration of results. Since the marking scheme is based on an online platform, marking answer sheets can also be done from the school level itself, where the teacher marking the scripts can be located, considering the convenience of the marking scenarios.
For students, the biggest advantage of marking answers on the computer would be the accurate and unbiased assessment, as the computer system can help ensure that the marking is standard and there is minimal possibility of errors. It also links to the modernisation of the education sector, as the digital process of marking is an upgrade to the older process.
However, some educators and students have expressed apprehension that with the move towards OSM, the evaluators may need to spend increased amounts of time with their screens turned on, which could impact their well-being. Also, emphasis needs to be placed on technical preparedness in the context of the smooth transition towards OSM.
