CM Kejriwal Introduces Online Portal to Provide Education Loan to Students

Online Portal introduced by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 20th June, Monday will now provide education loan to students who are financially at a disadvantage. The portal is implemented with the hope that the process of providing loans will smoothen up and students who wish to pursue higher studies in the national capital after their 12 board exams will face no financial burden.

The online portal was perceived and developed by the Directorate of Higher Education. The purpose of Higher Education and Skill Development Guarantee Scheme was to motivate students who are not able to pursue education due to lack of financial assistance.

The initiative came in fulfilment of the promise made by the Government of Delhi that no student in Delhi will be denied quality education due to lack of financial means.

Addressing a gathering, Kejriwal said, “We are improving the quality of education in the government schools, with better infrastructure, facilities and training for teachers. In three years’ time, parents in Delhi will be proud to say that their children study in government school.”

The CM also informed that banks cannot deny loan to students, once they have applied for the loan. Higher Education and Skill Development Credit Guarantee fund will also be provided to the students which is created by the Delhi government.

Students will not have to furnish any collaterals or margin money under this initiative. This is universal in in nature, irrespective of the background of the student.

Encouraging the students, Kejriwal said that students should make use of this scheme as the payment terms are quite generous. He also said that now the students will not have to take any financial burden in order to get quality education.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, also in-charge of the state’s educational affairs said that although the scheme was already in place since 2015, there was a need to launch it online so that students can access it easily and the transparency is maintained.

“We wish to encourage learning and are confident that such initiatives will break all the barriers and help students overcome higher learning of their choice,” added Manish Sisodia.
