DRDO-IITs Tie-up for Research and Development

For the development of jet propulsion lab, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will have a tie-up reveals, Manohar Parrikar, Union Defence Minister.
The total cost would be about Rs 160 crore and for that, DRDO and IIT Mumbai and Madras have signed an agreement, said Parrikar after inaugurating IIT Goa campus where Union Human Reseach Development minister Prakash Javadekar was also present.

Around 8000 scientists from DRDO would be a great resource for the educational institutes. We can select a few scientists who have done top-end research (for teaching) said Parrikar.
The Defence minister also talked about the quality of research at DRDO and confidently said that in the next one to two years the country would not need to import any part of its missile technology. The country would be able to manufacture them on its own. After a couple of years, DRDO can have a tie-up with IIT Goa and develop something said Parrikar, who himself is an IIT graduate.

“ IIT Goa can tie-up with DRDO to get visiting faculty in various subjects which can give the proper adaptable technological edge in education,” said the minister
At the inauguration, the defence minister, who himself was a former chief minister of Goa said that the state should not be clubbed with other Union Territories for reservation at the technology institutes.
IIT Goa shall be holding a 50 per cent reservation for the local population that will also cover Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
