Event Update: National Technology Day RSC

The Regional Science Cityand theNational Academy of Sciencejointly commemorated theNational Technology Dayon May 11.

The event started with a poster-making contest in the middle and High School categories. The topic for this contest was‘Technology and Society.’ This was followed by a 30-question written Science quiz contest related with technology. All questions were multiple choice-based and related with Indian technologies and technologists. The valedictory programme started with a popular science lecture delivered by formerCDRI director BN Dhawanon the topic ‘Nano technology.’ Dhawan, in his lecture, he explained nano technology, its basics and applications. He said that the technology existed in India since ancient times. He cited two specific examples of making ‘kajal’ and 'Banarasi' sarees. He shared interesting information telling students that one gram of gold could be converted into about a two-kilometre-long thin wire which was used in making the famous Indian Banarasi sarees.

Prior to this, president, NASI, and director, CSIRNBRI, CS Nautiyal, in his address, explained the significance of National Technology Day celebrations. He concluded his lecture with a possibility of nano technology in finding a control over ageing of human beings thereby transforming old age into a young one. Finally, all winners were given prizes.

Scientist RD Tripathi proposed the vote of thanks for programme. In all, about 450 students and teachers participated in the event.
