Decision taken by the state government on merging the Harideo Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication with Rajasthan University has been questioned by the former chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot as he calls the decision “arbitrary” and “anarchic”

In the year 2012, when Gehlot was the chief minister under Congress regime, Harideo Joshi University was established under the act passed by the state assembly. According to Gehlot, any change in the status of the university required legislative orders and merging the two universities could not be done merely due to state orders.

He also accused the university of ignoring the orders of the assembly and not waiting for final verdict of the High Court. Currently, the university has shut down the campus and shifted the staff members to Rajasthan University on its own and without receiving any orders from the higher authorities.

The former chief minister belonging to the Congress party mentioned on his facebook wall that the decision of merging two universities is based on political issues and is biased. Also, this will undone the good decisions taken by the congress party during their regime. He also said that this was the very first time in the history of education that a full-fledged state Government University has been closed and the staff merged with a department of another university.
