IIT Bombay's Monash Research Academy Celebrates Graduation of 20 Indian PhD Scholars
The IITB-Monash Research Academy awarded PhDs to 20 Indian scholars. Their research focused on real-world problems in science, technology, and society.
IIT Bombay's Monash Research Academy Celebrates Graduation of 20 Indian PhD Scholars: IITB-Monash Research Academy recently held a graduate ceremony in Mumbai, with a PhD degree to 20 Indian scholars. In this program, Dr. Megan Clarke AC , Chancellor of the University, Professor Shareresh Kade, Director of IIT Bombay, and specific guests, along with families of government officials, industry leaders, and graduates, participated. The ceremony not only celebrated the educational achievement, but also celebrated the increasing impact of collaborative research between India and Australia.
Mr M.S. Unnikrishnan, CEO of the Academy, added about the importance of a collaborative program. Since it was founded, the Academy has graduated 265 students who are working on “the world’s challenges” and spun out 12 start-ups around energy storage and advanced healthcare solutions. The successes of alumni demonstrate the Academy's efforts to develop highly skilled researchers with a global outlook.
Kedare highlighted the inclusive and interdisciplinary environment offered by the Academy. He says students benefit through learning from a broad introduction to research techniques, and are led to pursue projects that make a difference in the marketplace. “Indeed, the Academy’s PhD programs are designed to prepare leaders, in this case, to become leaders who will confront complex challenges with novel research and solutions,” he added.
Craig Jeffrey, Professor of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) at Monash University, talked about strong global demand for academic graduates. He said that these scholars are highly demanded by leading companies and top educational institutions around the world, outlining the high quality and relevance of research conducted in the academy.
Research subjects presented by graduates of this year were diverse and influential. Projects included Lagrangian transport in alveolar flows, chemistry for the development of metal-trace nano-materials, toxic chemicals for gas sensors, and a study on the analysis of representative democracy in India. These projects focus on the academy on solving real-world problems in scientific, technical, and social domains.
IITB-Monash Research Academy is a joint initiative between IIT Bombay and the University of Monash. The Academy's PhD program immerses students in research cultures of both institutions, which focus on areas such as clean energy, smart materials, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and durable societies. Over the years, it has produced more than 250 PhDs, more than 1,500 research publications, and 12 start-ups, innovations and industry in innovation and industry.
