Kakatiya University Ph.D. Admissions Turn Chaotic

  • Student unions of Kakatiya University have been protesting against the irregularities in the ongoing Ph.D. admissions.

Since Friday, February 23, 2018, student unions ofKakatiya Universityhave been demanding the administration to cancel the ongoing Ph.D. admissions. A section of students alleged that the varsity is resorting to numerous irregularities in the Ph.D. admissions. Last week, thePh.D. admissionsof Kakatiya University turn chaotic as student unions called for university bandh.

Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University, Professor Sayanna held talks with the students. However, the talks failed as the demands made by the student unions were deemed unfair.

Professor Sayanna revealed that the student unions demanded to add 25 marks to students who participated in statehood agitation so that they could secure admission in the Ph.D. course. However, adding 25 marks will be against thePh.D. admission guidelinesof theUniversity Grants Commission (UGC), he added.

Some of the students andfaculty membersof the varsity also raised objections against the demand made by the student unions. A faculty member of the varsity pointed that student unions are subjected to political influence and are disturbing the ongoingPh.D. admission processat the varsity.

Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. Kadiyam Srihari will soon interfere in the issue and summon theVC of Kakatiya Universityfor an update on the affairs of the varsity. Meanwhile, the varsity has stalled the Ph.D. admissions for now. The admission process is expected to resume by February 27, 2018.

Condemning the rumours on irregularities in ongoing Ph.D. admissions, Kakatiya University has made the entire process of admissions for public scrutiny. This year, over 7,332 students appeared for thePh.D. entrance testin 31 disciplines. Out of them, 3,155 students cleared the test and secured eligibility for the interview. So far, 338 students have been granted admission to the Ph.D. course in 28 disciplines.
