Karnataka Govt. to get 40% of Private Medical Seats

The Karnataka government is trying to sign an agreement with the private colleges to secure 40 percent of BDS and MBBS seats in the private colleges.

Since, the government is working on this agreement there is a very high probability that the fees of the UG dental programs and medical programs will hike this year again. This hike will be the second one in the last two months.

There are 4000 seats for dental programs and medical programs in Karnataka combining both the colleges i.e. government and private. The colleges or the BDS and MBBS seats which come under Comedk was Rs. 4.25 lakh and Rs. 3.75 lakh respectively. This number is before the agreement and the fees for MBBS and BDS fees for CET candidates were Rs. 55, 000/- and Rs. 35, 000 respectively. The fees of these programs was hiked earlier this year just after the agreement was signed and the increase was 10%.

Private colleges which are part of Comedk are ready to give up the seats to the government quota, if the government increases the fees for the medical and dental programs.

As the NEET was made effective this year otherwise known as National Eligibility Entrance Test, the agreement was considered invalid but according to the new agreement, the CET and Comedk candidates will receive 40% of seats and the remaining 20% seats will come under NRI quota.
