Today (i.e. May 27th, 2016) is the last day to apply for UPSC Civil Services Examination-2016. Interested candidates make sure that they have filled the Application Form as early as possible. Also, please follow the given Do's and Don'ts instructions to fill the application correctly.

UPSC APPLICATION FORM DO’s

1. Read Instructions Carefully

The first thing to keep in mind before filling UPSC Application form for Civil Service Examination is to read the entire set of instructions that have been provided by UPSC on the official website.

There will be 2 parts of the UPSC Application Form – Part I and Part II. Once you successfully fill Part I, you will be eligible to fill Part II.

The Registration ID that will be generated after filling Part I needs to be saved by you. It will be required for filling Part II of the application form as well as in all future references.

2. Fulfill Eligibility Conditions

The Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to examination. Their admission to all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Mere issue of admission certificate to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the Commission.

Union Public Service Commission takes up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.

3. Fulfill Educational Qualifications

Every applicant must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the examination but have not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination.

4. Choose the Correct Optional

One thing that needs to be remembered is that even though the UPSC application form is being filled for the preliminary examination conducted by UPSC but certain details of the Main Examination are also asked in this form itself.

Optional is one of them. Optional is the subject that you will appear for in the Main Examination held in the month of November. There will be 2 papers concerning the Optional subject. So choose your optional carefully.

You will NOT be allowed to change the optional once you have filled in your application form. So in case you are unsure about the correct optional, please go through the syllabus of the optionals mentioned and choose accordingly.

Pick up the optional that you studies during graduation. If you choose a different optional, make sure you will be comfortable with the subject throughout your preparation.

5. Picture and Signature Dimensions

Read the guidelines for uploading the picture and signature in Part II of the application form.

Before start filling up of Online Application, a candidate must have his/her photograph and signature duly scanned in the jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 40 KB and must not be less than 3 KB in size for the photograph and 1 KB for the signature.

Blurry or hazy pictures are NOT accepted by UPSC. Your form will be subjected to cancellation in case the picture and signature quality is not appropriate.

3. Don’t Fill Incorrect Centre

While filling the UPSC Application Form, candidates should carefully decide about their choice of centre for the Exam.

If any candidate appears at a centre other than the one indicated by UPSC in his/her Admission Certificate, the papers of such a candidate will not be evaluated and his/her candidature will be liable to cancellation.

Make sure you choose the most convenient exam centre for both prelims and Mains. The centre for appearing in the Mains Examination will also be required to fill in the application form for prelims itself.

4. Don’t Randomly Pick Up an Optional

Filling the application form in haste and not choosing the correct optional will cost you dearly.

You should spend a considerable amount of time choosing the correct optional from the list of subjects provided by UPSC. You should ask yourself questions like –

Will I be able to hold my interest in the subject throughout my preparation?

Will I get relevant study material for the subject ?

Will i get proper guidance for the subject ?

Questions like these will help you make the right decision about the optional.

5. Don’t Submit Certificates

Candidates are not required to submit along with their applications any certificate in support of their claims regarding Age, Educational Qualifications, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes and Physically disabled etc. which will be verified at the time of the Main examination only.

The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination.

Their admission at all the stages of examination for which they are admitted by the UPSC will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

If on verification at any time before or after the Examination, Main (written) Examination and Interview Test, it is found that they do not fulfil any of the eligibility condition, their candidature for the examination will be cancelled by UPSC.
