Applications for Madras University Merit Fellowship 2024-25 are now open. Eligible PG students can apply through their departments to receive Rs 8,000/- per semester based on academic performance and attendance.
Applications for Madras University Merit Fellowship 2024-25 are now open for eligible postgraduate students studying at the University of Madras. The fellowship provides Rs 8,000/- per semester to meritorious students enrolled in full-time postgraduate courses offered by the University departments.
To apply, students must collect and fill out the official application form available at their respective departments. Along with the form, they need to attach an attested copy of their mark statement and an original attendance certificate issued by the Head of Department. The completed forms should be submitted to the HOD for further review by the Departmental Committee. The last date for departments to forward the selected candidates is November 13, 2025. Any applications received after this deadline will not be accepted. Students who are selected will be informed about the Madras University fellowship award through their departments.

Madras University Merit Fellowship Eligibility 2024-25
Madras University Merit Fellowship aims to recognise and support outstanding postgraduate students pursuing full-time PG programs at the university. It encourages academic excellence by providing financial assistance each semester. Here is the eligibility criteria for the same:
Students must be full-time PG students in any department of the University of Madras.
There is no income limit for applicants.
Sponsored students are not eligible.
Students must have at least 60% marks in the semester exams considered for the fellowship.
A minimum of 90% attendance in the relevant semester is mandatory.
The fellowship is awarded to students with the highest marks in each department per semester.
Madras University Merit Fellowship Selection Process 2024-25
Here is the Madras University Merit Fellowship Selection Process:Departments with more than 10 sanctioned seats can award up to two fellowships per course, with a maximum of four per department, depending on the number of programs offered. Departments with 10 or fewer students are guaranteed at least one fellowship, provided all seats are filled.
Additionally, one fellowship will be available for each self-supportive course. Students must pass all semester papers with a minimum aggregate of 60% to qualify.
It is important to note that fellowship holders cannot receive another endowment fellowship at the same time, though they can still avail of SC, ST, MBC, or BC scholarships alongside this one.
