Mamata Banerjee to Hold Discussions on Fee Hike with Heads of Private Educational Institutes

  • West Bengal government to improve quality and standard of education.
  • Wishes to enable poor meritorious students; restrain students from going to other states/abroad to pursue higher education.

 

Education Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Partha Chatterjee revealed that the state government is ready to discuss the fee hike issue with private educational institutes. He further revealed that Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee would hold a meeting with the heads of private colleges and other institutes of higher learning. Education Minister further mentioned that the state government would not impose anything without a reason. However, the state government is committed to improving the quality and standard of education, he added.

Mr. Chatterjee also mentioned that the state government would enable the poor and meritorious students to pursue higher education in the institute as per their wish. For this purpose, the state government will urge the private educational institutes to reserve some seats in their institutes for poor, eligible and hard working students.

He also expressed his concern about the students who are leaving the state to pursue technical education in other states. Mr. Chatterjee also expressed that the state has been developed technologically. It wants to regulate the students from going to other states or abroad in pursuit of higher education. He also urged the private institutes to disclose the number of seats available in their institutes on the official website.

Speaking about the three-language formula mooted by the state government, Mr. Chatterjee revealed that the state government never imposed a restriction on English language. The state government wants Bengali to be one among the three languages in the school curriculum.
