The selection process after Mudra Institute of Communications Admission Test (MICAT) involves three steps as follows:
First Step: CAT 2016, GMAT (2015 onwards) and XAT 2017 scores. This means that the candidate must appear for any of these three examinations to be eligible to take MICAT.
Second Step: MICA Admission Test (MICAT) needs to be taken by each candidate. This test consists of six sections namely Psychometric (P), Quantitative ability (QA), Verbal ability (VA), Divergent-Convergent Reasoning (DCR), General Awareness (GA) and Descriptive Test (DT).
How are candidates shorlisted for Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interviews (PI)?
The qualifying test is the Psychometric test. If a candidate qualifies in the same, he/she is assessed for VA, QA, GA and DCR sections of MICAT.
Further, if you qualify all sections with a minimum cut-off scaled score, the candidate is further evaluated on the Descriptive Test or DT.
If you qualify in all the above-stated tests, then you will be eligible for GE and PI round. The list will be prepared basis the scores of a candidate in MICAT 1 and/or MICAT 2 - the scores of which are better.
Third Step: Shorlisted candidates will appear for GE and PI.
Next, you may wish to know how the merit list is prepared:
A. The basis of merit list includes the following:
- Unanimous recommendation by all the present panel members of PI.
- A score of minimum 3.5 or more on a 5 point scale in Group Exercise
- A score of minimum 4 or more on a 5 point scale in Personal Interview
B. If criteria mentioned in point A is met, a composite score will be created based on the following weightage:
Criteria | Weightage |
MICAT | 50% |
GE or Group Exercise | 18% |
PI or Personal Interview | 30% |
CAT/GMAT/XAT Score | 2% (Scaled Scores) |
Short listed candidates will be called for GE and PI at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata & Mumbai.
How are Scaled Scores Calculated?
The score obtained individually by a candidate 'X' in a particular component of MICAT-1/MICAT-2 , for example in Verbal Ability (VA) will be converted into Scaled Score using the following sample formula:
Scaled Score in VA of a candidate 'X' in MICAT-1/MICAT-2 = (Score in VA of the candidate 'X' / Maximum obtained by any candidate amongst the candidates who have appeared in MICAT-1/MICAT-2 in VA) which will further be multiplied by Maximum possible Score in VA in MICAT-1/MICAT-2.
Similarly Scaled Scores will be calculated for all the MICAT-1/MICAT-2 components using sample formula., for VA, GA, QA, DCR and DT.
Total MICAT-1/MICAT-2 score will be calculated using Scaled Scores for each of the MICAT components
Note:
- XAT/1.26=CAT
- Formula for GMAT conversion will be determined later
