Mining University to be Set Up in Nagpur Soon

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prof Vladimir Litvinenko of St. Petersburg Mining University with the aim of setting up of a full-fledged collaborative mining university in Nagpur. The districts of Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur in Vidarbha have a large pool of resources of the richest mines and minerals.

The MoU was a result of the series of meetings and conferences that were held with the government officials and representatives from various Russian industries in order to explore mines and metallurgy sectors.

Further, CM Fadnavis also intends to invite Russian companies to Vidarbha to tap foreign direct investments and the mutual partnership in exchange of expertise and technology in the metallurgy and mining sectors.

Interestingly, it is important to note that about 30% of the funds raised with such policy reforms will be used for socio-economic development of the tribal belt in Vidarbha.

Apart from the mining project, the Maharashtra government & St. Petersburg Mining University will also come together to scale up coal energy conversion with the power generation utility MAHAGENCO. Secondly, setting up of defence manufacturing parks in Nagpur and Nashik with support from Russian conglomeration of companies (KRET) is also in the pipeline.

Additionally, the Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg and BMC ie Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation have also signed a MoU to promote and preserve culture, art and heritage. Exhibitions, restoration works and training will be organised in order to take the rich culture heritage to an altogether next level.
