Mumbai & Delhi Listed in Top 100 Student-Friendly Cities in the World
For the first time, Mumbai and New Delhi have been ranked amongst the top 100 best cities for students published by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) on February 15, 2017.
For the first time, Mumbai and New Delhi have been ranked amongst the top 100 best cities for students. The Best Student Cities ranking was published by popular colleges and university ranking agency, QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) on February 15, 2017.
Paris – that was placed on top since 2012 – has been removed from the top spot this year getting the second position. Indian cities – Mumbai and Delhi have been placed at 85thand 86thspot respectively.

QS prepared the list by analyzing six parameters: affordability, student mix, desirability, rankings, employer activity, and student view. This was the first time that student view was taken into account for the rankings. Also, the list of 2017 comprises 100 cities instead of 75.
Indian cities have performed reasonably well in the affordability metric and the cost of living for each city has been evaluated. New Delhi was given the 15thspot for this parameter and Mumbai was given the 30thplace. Employer activity was also found to be high in both the cities for which Mumbai was ranked 40thand Delhi got the 50thspot.
Ben Sowter, Head of Research, informed that New Delhi and Mumbai have featured in the list for the first time and have performed very well in terms of affordability and employer activity indicator. The cities were evaluated on the basis of the information gathered from local experts and international employers surveyed (37,000 recruiters surveyed globally).
The desirability score of both the cities has also increased. After analysing the quality of life, safety, including pollution and corruption, and safety, Mumbai got 90thand New Delhi got the 91stspot in the desirability metric. According to student views, Mumbai ranks 74thand Delhi ranks 82nd.

Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe are the top five student-friendly cities in Asia. QS studied 125 cities to compile the Top 100 Best Student Cities ranking list.
