Mumbai University Joins Hands with Pawan Hans to Launch B.Sc in Aeronautical Engg.

In the latest development, Mumbai University has collaborated with Pawan Hans, a state-run helicopter services operator on March 23, 2017, to launch Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Aeronautical Engineering. The varsity is also taking steps to launch a course in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering from the coming academic session.

One of the officials of the varsity regarded the course, as ‘dual qualification course’. Students enrolled for this programme will be trained by professionals from Pawan Hans Helicopter Training institute. On the other hand, the training and the course will be monitored and supported by Garware Institute of Career Education and Development.

Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh revealed that the annual intake of Aeronautical Engineering course is 60 and the course will begin from July 2017. He further added that the varsity would also launch a chopper joy ride in collaboration with Bombay Flying Club for both students and public on March 28, 2017.

Mr. Deshmukh further revealed that there would be a 10% discount on the fare if the students were willing to participate in chopper joy ride. The students belonging to weaker section will have 25% of discount on the ticket. The cost of the ticket for each student will be less than Rs. 4,000.

Chairperson of Pawan Hans indicated that the students who choose this course would have scope for assured placements, as there is a severe scarcity of skilled workforce in the aviation sector. Mr. Deshmukh, VC of Mumbai University mentioned that they requested for 200 acres of land to open a campus for tribal students and if the land is allocated, an airstrip will be built which the government departments can also use.
