Myanmar institute to get teaching tips from IIIT-B

Teachers from Myanmar Institute of Information Technology (MIIT), Mandalay, are to learn teaching methodologies used by the faculty of International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B).

IIIT-B, funded by the state government and IT sector, has been mentoring MIIT since its inception in 2014 as part of an Indo-Myanmarese MoU.

A delegation of five professors from MIIT and its pro-rector (vice-chancellor) is now in the city to get first-hand knowledge of various academic activities at IIIT-B.

The team said their first batch of postgraduate diploma in software technology (PGDST) students, who passed out in 2015, witnessed hundred per cent placements, thanks to IIIT-B's guidance.

“All the 30 students have been placed in various IT companies in different countries, with some of them managing to bag US $2,000 per month packages in Singapore and Vietnam,’ said a team member.

“There are 30 IT companies in Myanmar. We have helped MIIT to set up infrastructure and labs and provided faculty for another five years. Our faculty will train teachers in MIIT. Only from the sixth year will Myanmarese teachers teach MIIT students," said director of IIIT B.

“The MoU is valid for five years and currently, 10 IIIT-Bians are teaching in MIIT. From this year, MIIT will also offer BTech in two streams -- computer science and electronics and communication. For the first time, the Myanmar government has partnered with India to establish a new university in our country. We need good teachers and IIIT is helping in providing training to Myanmar teachers to work in MIIT. The curriculum has been designed by IIIT-B; from next year, it will be a joint initiative by IIIT-B and MIIT," said another delegate.

There will be the student- and cultural-exchange programmes between MIIT and IIIT.
