The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has clarified that no common entrance will be held for the engineering seats in the country. The clarification came amidst the confusion surrounding the implementation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

While talking to the media after attending 51 annual convocations of Bangalore University Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE said, “ There were lots of speculations that the common entrance test for the engineering would be held but nothing concrete can be expected even in the next academic year.”

Some States were already using scores in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) mains for admitting the students in their course but the implementation of one exam for the whole country would require an “alignment in syllabus” and without which students of the State, syllabus would be at the receiving end.

AICTE to launch start-up policy

“The AICTE would launch a startup policy within two months. The colleges across the country can adopt on the voluntary basis. As problems of employment have reached a very high point.” said Sahasrabudhe while elaborating on employment for the students.

“ We tend to believe that large industries have more jobs but that is not actually true. It is only the start-ups, small and medium scale industries that provide a large number of jobs. Through our policy we will give a framework to colleges to work on their start-up ,” said AICTE Chairman.

“This could mean for students a possibility of getting credits for projects that would otherwise not fetch them anything, “he added.

“The Centre had plans to ensure that more Indian institutes make it to the top 100 in international rankings. These institutions can be from both private and government Institution and they would be provided with the fund,” he added further.

“Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) has helped in improving the rankings of institutions. The response to the scheme had exceeded the 500-mark target, with several faculty members from foreign universities teaching in Indian institutions.Indian Institute of Science Bangalore is one of them.” he concluded.
