Norms for Appointment of Foreign Faculty in IITs to be Eased
According to sources, MEA has responded positively, and the norms for the appointment of international faculty in IITs would be made easier.
The government has taken the decision to ease the regulatory norms for the appointment of international faculty in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The Ministry of Human Resource and Development had sent a proposal to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in this regard.

According to sources, MEA has responded positively, and the norms for the appointment of international faculty in IITs would be made easier. At the same time, the ministry has also proposed to make clearance norms easier for others teaching in India.
The ministry has also suggested to relax work visa regime by bringing down the threshold annual salary to Rs. 9.1 lakh per annum from the current limit Rs. 16.7 lakhs.

The primary objective of MHRD is to improve the global rankings of premier institutes by inviting international faculty. The ministry is also aiming at improving the quality of education.
