Odisha School Holiday Update 29 October 2025: The Odisha government has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff by declaring a holiday in several districts due to the approaching Cyclone Montha. As per the latest update, schools in eight southern districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur, will remain closed from October 28 to 30, 2025 . The decision was made in light of the expected heavy rain and strong winds associated with the cyclone.
The districts likely to be affected by heavy rain on October 29, 2025, are Puri, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Baragarh, Balangir, Baudh, and Nuapada, which have a 50% chance of being closed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of Cyclone Montha intensifying into a severe storm and making landfall between Machilipatnam and Kakinada on the Andhra Pradesh coast. In preparation for the cyclone, the state administration has stepped up cyclone preparedness, with evacuations already underway in vulnerable low-lying and hilly areas. Over 5,000 personnel from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for rescue and relief work.
The state government has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea and citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Parents are advised to keep children indoors during the bad weather, and schools are urged to follow the directive strictly
