Osmania University Inaugurates 36th Astronomical Society of India (ASI) Conference
- OU is organising 36th ASI conference as a part of its centenary celebrations.
- The astronomical conference has been inaugurated on February 06, and it will continue until February 09, 2018.
Osmania University (OU)has inaugurated 36thAstronomical Society of India (ASI) conference on February 06, 2018. The conference is being organised by OU as a part of itscentenary celebrations, and the conference will conclude on February 09, 2018. Over 400astronomersfrom India, as well as, abroad will be present during the four-day conference to discuss latest scientific developments inastronomy.

The 36thASI conference will comprise of 170 poster presentations and 100 scientific talks from amateur astronomers and researchers. Some of the scientific talks will be on latest discovers in the field of astronomy including a radio telescope, 3.6 m optical telescope, AstroSat and upgraded GMRT. The researchers will also give a detailed insight of observations made byIndian scientistson latest technologies and discoveries in the field of astronomy.
The ASI conference will also hold discussions on future observatories such as Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory and Aditya L1, a latest solar mission to be launched byISRO. Additionally, the discussions will be also conducted on international projects in the field of astronomy such as 30-metre telescope and square kilometre array.

As a part of the conference, ASI is organising six parallelastronomy workshops, exclusively for Ph.D. scholars and college students. Recently, ASI organised a workshop for 87 teachers from government schools in collaboration with Jana Vignana Vedika. During the workshop, teachers were taught on hands-on activities based on the sun.
On February 07, 2018, ASI will also organise two sessions on careers in Astronomy for college students atAurora Degree and PG College, Hyderabad.
