Telangana Inter Exams 2026: The number of students taking the Intermediate annual examination is likely to touch 10 lakh for the first time since the formation of Telangana, as the State is going to be all set to conduct the exams. TSBIE officials said the unprecedented participation showcases a gradual increase in the student population in both government and private junior colleges. The Intermediate annual examination is likely to start from February 25, 2026 .

So far, approximately 9.92 lakh students have paid the exam fees. Moreover, there are about 10,000 students in 16 private junior colleges that run in mixed-use residential/commercial buildings who have not yet made their payments. These colleges have been given a one-time relief this year by the government, on certain terms and conditions, to enable them survive. When these students pay the fee, the number of candidates will go beyond 10 lakh.

For comparison, the last highest number of fee-paying candidates was in March 2025, when 9,96,971 students registered for the exams. Earlier years saw lower numbers, with 9,47,699 students in 2023 and approximately 9.35 lakh students in 2024. Board officials said that every year, on the actual examinations, around 4 to 5 per cent of fee-paying students are absent during the actual board examinations.

The Intermediate Board has, however, stated that from the academic session 2026–27, a new syllabus will come into effect. Students who will enter the first year of Intermediate next year will be taught the revised syllabus. In a move to make books available on time, the education department proposes to introduce the books in the market early so that students of private colleges can purchase them by the second week of April. The textbooks will also have QR codes and will be printed on better-quality paper.

In order to enhance invigilation, the integration of CCTV cameras with the Board’s command and control room is being enhanced. Among almost 1 ,000 private junior colleges, 492 colleges have completed the integration. The rest of the colleges will be connected before the practical exams start on February 2.

The board is also enhancing its strength and supervision for the exams. The number of invigilators will be raised to about 45,000 this year , from just under 30,000 last year. Approximately 1,490 examination centers will be established throughout the state, with stringent conditions for allotment. Board Secretary Krishna Aditya said the centers are being sanctioned on the basis of undertakings submitted by the colleges that they are ready with the infrastructure, have installed CCTV, and have the availability of basic amenities.
